Agriculture Regulatory Specialist - #SO522869
 
Under the Director of Regulatory Services, this position will direct a state-wide program that administers the Kentucky Fertilizer Law and regulations. Broad responsibilities include:
(1) Fertilizer and fertilizer material registration, and licensing of businesses selling commercial, custom mix or bulk specialty fertilizers;
(2) Coordinating fertilizer sampling and analysis, and publication of analytical results;
(3) Coordinating data collection, summarization, and publication of fertilizer tonnage sold;
(4) Participating in state, regional and national professional organizations that enhance professional development and promote regulation uniformity;
(5) Stay abreast and adapt program to new developments in fertilizers, manufacturing and marketing; and
(6) Continuing to maintain high standards in the fertilizer regulatory program.  
 
The successful candidate will also:
1) Review labels of fertilizer products for compliance;
(2) Provide training and education programs in good manufacturing and compliant practices for registrants and licensees;
(3) Provide evaluation and training to assist registrants/licensees with specific problems;
(4) Coordinate with analytical laboratory to assure applicable methodology and quality of results;
(5) Coordinate with data processing group to assure accurate and efficient handing of all registration, sampling, analytical, and tonnage data;
(6) Coordinate with field inspection program to assure efficient sampling, inspection and labeling; (7) Promote an effective working relationship with registrants and licensees;
(8) Partner with Kentucky fertilizer industry, consumer groups and College Agriculture advisory groups to maintain integrity of the Kentucky Fertilizer Law and regulations; and
(9) Have other duties as assigned by the Director.
 
MS Degree in Soil Science or other relevant area of study plus five (5) years of suitable fertilizer regulation or fertilizer industry experience is required. Preference will be given to those holding a Ph.D. in Soil Science or relevant field with suitable regulatory or industry experience. All candidates should be dependable, possess organizational skills, demonstrated communication skills, ability to promote a teamwork climate, have demonstrated leadership skills and have proficiency in computer use.
