A: NEW VERSION 4 USERS
(Users who have not installed UFTRS Version 4
or have installed a version and do not need to save any data entered into
the system).
Warning: This procedure will delete any version 4 data on your
system.
Introduction: You will first install Version 4.03 and then
update to 4.04. The following directions will result in the installation
of Version 4.04.
Step 1: Downloading the files <strip.exe>, <uftrsv4.03full.exe>,
and <uftrsv4.04update.exe>:
-
Download/save two self-extracting files by clicking their names:<uftrsv4.03full.exe
> and <uftrsv4.04update.exe>.
Be sure you note into which folder the files are downloaded/saved.
-
Download/save the file, <strip.exe> to the root
directory of your C:\ drive. Be sure you note into which folder
the file is downloaded/saved if not C:\. The <strip.exe>
file must be on your C:\ drive for the 'import' facility to work properly.
If it is not on the root directory of your C:\ then move it to C:\.
-
Using Windows Explorer, go to where your downloaded/saved <uftrs4.03full.exe>
and double click the file. This will extract several files to be used in
the installation and place them in the folder: C:\uftrs4. Close out
of unzip under C:\uftrs4 folder.
-
Continuing with Explorer, locate the file <setup.exe>(Its icon
will be a 'computer'). Double click this file. The installation
of UFTRS will then run. Follow instructions of the setup choosing
the the 'default location' and 'typical' setup. You should
receive the message,'UFTRS setup was completed successfully'.
-
Once setup is complete you are ready to customize your system as directed
in Step 2 below. Once this is done you will be directed to update
to version 4.04.
.
Step 2: Customize system.
Note: More help is in the 'Instruction
file' so download it if needed.
-
Go to "Start" and 'Program' and activate the UFTRS program. Verify
the version number 4.03 under the logo on the opening menu screen.
-
You will need to set your system to your specific default values:
-
1. Select "view/edit setup" button from the main menu. Enter
information to customize it specifically for your needs then return to
main menu.
-
2. Import your old UFTRS V3 shipper file, <shipper.dbf>.
Go to 'Tools' button from 'Main' menu and push the button, 'Import Old
UFTRS Shippers'. (Note: The <shipper.dbf> file will be located in your
\UFTRS3 folder.) You should see the message, 'Shippers Imported Successfully'.
From there select the "shipper Information" button to verify the shipper
data. After verifying that the data are correct close to return to main
menu.
-
3. Customize your tonnage entry screen. On the main menu select "Enter
tonnage data", choose any time frame because we are not actually going
to enter data so the period does not matter. Choose "continue", the next
screen should be the tonnage entry screen. Down toward the bottom of the
screen you should see a button "Edit setup options". Press this button,
the screen that appears is used to design how you want your tonnage entry
screen to appear. You will need to check this screen carefully. Change
any settings to meet your entry needs. Verify the default values on the
left side of the screen, check the data fields on the right side of the
screen that you want to be included as part of your entry screen, and
then check the fields you wish to carry forward. (A field checked as "carry
forward" means the data for this field will be carried to the next record,
therefore, the user will not have to enter repetitive data). When you are
done close this screen and the tonnage entry screen to return to the main
menu.
-
4. Exit the program, you have finished the customization. You
may want to return later to the customization section to change your setup.
-
You should now be ready to update to Version 4.04. Go to "Section
C: USERS WITH UFTRS 4.02 OR 4.03 INSTALLED' in these instructionsor
if you are following on screen click [GO]. Begin
with the third bullet under Step 2 which is noted with the symbol (&&).
-
Continue to Step 3 if and only if you plan to use the system
on more than one computer and store the data on a common
drive.
Step 3: multiple users only (network /server used to store data for
shared use).
-
Copy the data file, <uftrsv4_be.mdb>, (known as the back-end)
to the network: After the first installation has been performed successfully,
you will need to copy the "back-end" data file, <uftrsv4_be.mdb>,
to
the desired location on the network. The installation copies the back-end
file to c:\program file\uftrs. Go to this directory and copy this file
to the desired destination on the network. Please make a note of this location
for later reference. This file will contain all the tonnage data you will
enter and your customization information.
-
Delete the original file: After copying the back-end to the network
you will need to delete the original file <uftrsv4_be.mdb> from
the c:\program files\uftrs folder. This breaks the link the program has
to the data file and forces prompts a dialog box to be displayed asking
the user to locate the back-end, allowing the user to enter the network
path of the file.
-
Relink the program to back-end file now located on network drive: Activate
the program, a dialog box will come up indicating the broken link. Re-establish
the link by locating the "back-end" data file previously copied to the
network using the browse button. Once the path appears relink the data
by pressing the relink button. A message will display indicating whether
the link was successful. If the link was successful then you are done,
close the form and activate the program again.
-
2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. installations (For
other computers used to run the program): Follow the same procedures
under Step 1 downloading the new file (You do not have to download
the file from the Web site each time. You can copy the file <uftrsv4.03full.exe>
that has already been downloaded by the first install to a location on
the network to avoid downloading the file again.) Then copy this
file to each machine and proceed with the bullet beginning with the words
"Using Windows Explorer" under Step1.
-
Do Not do Step 2 since customization has already been completed.
-
After performing Step 1 you should have installed the program on each machine
and linked each to the back-end on the network.. Open up the program on
each machine to verify completion of installation by going to 'View/Edit
Setup Options' and noting that the setup is the same on each machine.
This allows each machine on which the program has been installed to access
UFTRS, enter data, run reports, etc.
-
You are now ready to update to version 4.04. Click [update]
and
follow the directions for updating to version 4.04.
-
You are done.

Instructions for Updating UFTRS V4.02 or 4.03
to
UFTRS V4.04(8/23/01)
Please follow steps carefully
Call if you would like assistance
Introductions:
Updating to Uftrsv4.04 will simply replace the old version of the program
file, <Uftrsv4.mde> with a newer version, add the <strip.exe> file
to C:\, run a small program <addtables.exe> to make some changes in
the table structure, and then re-establish the link to the data. You
must run the program <addtables.exe> prior to starting Version 4.04
or you will get a warning about missing tables. The user will be asked
to rename their existing program for safety purposes before copying the
new version over. When the new program is in place the user when then open
up the program and re-establish the link. After the link is made the program
will then need to be opened again to confirm the new version is in place
by looking at the version number provided on the opening screen.
Multi-Installation users see below.
Step 1: Renaming the program file <UFTRSV4.MDE> TO <UFTRSV4.OLD>
During the original setup of the program, the installation process provided
a default to the placement of the program. If you did not take
the default then the location of the program will need to be found by using
the "Find folders or files" utility.
To rename a file:
-
Using Windows Explorer go to default location c:\program files\uftrs or
the user's specified location of the program and find the file <UFTRSV4.MDE>.
-
Rename this file to <UFTRSV4.OLD>.
Step 2: Download new files for the Update Procedure.
-
Download/save the two files by clicking here <uftrsv4.04update.exe>
and <strip.exe> . Be sure you note into
which folder the files are downloaded/saved.
-
Move <strip.exe> to your C:\ root directory. This file must be
on the root directory of your C drive for the 'import' facility to work
properly.
-
(&&)Using Windows Explorer go to the self-extracting
file, <uftrs4.04update.exe>, and double click it to extract the
files. The default destination of the extracted files is: c:\program files\uftrs.
-
The files extracted are: <uftrsv4.mde> and <addtables.mde> and should
be in the folder: c:\program files\uftrs . If so proceed with the next
step. If not use Explorer's "Find" utility to find the files and
'move' them to the specified location..
-
Double click on the "addtables.mde" file to run the program. This
will ask the user to locate the back-end data file, <uftrsv4_be.mdb>.
Use the browse button to help locate the file. (If default responses
were taken during the original installation then the file will be under
c:\program files\uftrs.) The program should indicate if successful
or not. If not please call for assistance, this must be done in order
for program to work.
-
Close or minimize Explorer.
-
Go to "Start" and activate the UFTRS program in the usual manner. The program
may open up informing the user that the back-end was not linked (could
not be found) and the user needs to re-establish the link. This is dependent
upon the location of your back-end file. The program will be looking for
the back-end in the C:\Program Files\uftrs directory. If your back-end
is not located in this directory you will need to relink
your data
to the new version of the program. Do this by using the browse facility
on the form. The back-end filename is <uftrsv4_be.mdb>. If you
do not know where your data file (back-end file) is located you will need
to find it first. Use Windows Explorer to find the file <uftrsv4_be.mdb>.
-
Once you find the file, you will need to make a note of the location of
the file and then you must relink using the program's browse button
to find the file. (Please make a written note of the location of both the
program file (front-end) <uftrsv4.mde> and the data file (back-end)
<uftrsv4_be.mdb>).
-
After selecting/inserting the back-end filename press the relink button.
A message will appear if the relink has been successful. If so continue
else retry or call tech support.
-
If successful close program and reopen the program to verify the link and
the new version. You should now see version 4.04 on the main menu screen.
-
You are done. Thank you for your patience, help, and participation.
Note for Multi-Installation Users: The new <uftrsv4.mde>
located in the folder: c:\program files\uftrs must be copied to the same
folder in each machine set up with the UFTRS4 program. The new <uftrsv4.mde>
file must 'replace' the old file.
The following steps need to be done in order to properly install
the program If you have a problem/question please call.
Please send us e-mails or call if you need to report a problem.
