Commercial Fertilizer

"Commercial Fertilizers 2007" is available; all earlier versions are still available. National fertilizer use data are available in a hard-copy publication, "Commercial Fertilizers 2007", which is available from The Fertilizer Institute (TFI).  The Association of American Plant Food Control Officials (AAPFCO), in partnership with TFI, has published the 2007 edition of the Commercial Fertilizer Report.  The report, which documents consumption by nutrient and by state, is $30 per copy for members of TFI and AAPFCO, and $100 per copy for non-members.  To order a copy of the Commercial Fertilizer 2007, please contact Valerie Sutton, TFI Manager of Administration and Economic Services, by telephone: (202) 515-2709, or by e-mail: vbrown@tfi.org.  Earlier data is available for $100 per copy.

The data are also available in a computer file from: Joe Slater, Fert./Ag-Lime Control Service, University of Missouri-Columbia, Columbia, MO 65211-8080, Telephone: (573) 882-0007, Fax: (573) 882-4543, E-mail: slaterj@missouri.edu.

ASCII and LOTUS formats of the Commercial Fertilizer 2007 data are available.  AAPFCO sells the FY2007 and FY2006 data sets for $300 each.  All others from 1985-2005 are $100 each.  The data are available on 3.5" diskette, CD, or via e-mail.  Send your order via e-mail stating the format you prefer and include the year(s) and the media form you wish to receive.

Magruder Check Sample Program

"Round robin" samples are frequently used to provide comparisons of analytical results. The first program using statistical techniques to evaluate fertilizer sample results was the Magruder Check Sample Program. Each subscribing laboratory receives one or two samples each month. These samples typically contain varying levels of the primary nutrients (N, P, & K) as well as secondary (Ca, Mg & S) and many micro-nutrients of interest. In addition, requests for analysis of contaminants of interest, including trace metals (As, Cd, Cr, Co, Hg, Pb, Ni, & Se) are often requested. Samples are analyzed according to methods chosen by the participating laboratory. The results, with method designations are reported directly to the statistician. A comprehensive statistical report is prepared, noting inter-laboratory bias and precision, with a coded ranking of individual laboratories. These reports are sent to subscribers for performance evaluation. Laboratories are identified only by number, with laboratory identification and performance held in strict confidence.
